M.S.D. Protocol (Modular Surgical Drill)

Patient D.F., a 46-year-old man, presented with an endo-periodontal lesion on tooth no. 3 (FDI 1.6), which was deemed non-restorable. The patient requested restoration of the missing tooth without involving the adjacent teeth.

The treatment plan involved the placement of an immediate post-extraction implant using the M.S.D. (Modular Surgical Drill) protocol. This technique allows for the reshaping of the interradicular bone to stabilize the implant in the ideal prosthetic position. To counteract the volumetric contraction of the extraction socket, a heterologous graft (heterologous biomaterial) was performed. A 3D collagen matrix was then sutured occlusally to protect the graft. The 5-year follow-up images demonstrate the restoration of both aesthetic and masticatory function, with maintenance of peri-implant bone levels.
